TECHNOLOGY & DESIGN
The design of the AGC Slot Borer is for the most part; based on that of the AGA REEF EATER. The main difference is that this machine is designed to drill vertical blind holes upwards whereas the AGA machine could drill holes at angles varying between 20 and 90 degrees.
The AGC MACHINE is designed to drill one meter diameter vertical holes, upwards to lengths of 20m to 50m. The machine encompasses 18 years of drilling experience, at PREMIER DIAMOND MINE and various others, which later became PETRA CULLINAN DIAMOND MINE. All improvements made to the first generation slot machines have been incorporated in the design. Photos of earlier generation

"Reef boring Test site Since deployment and commissioning of the MK II machine in 2013, a total of 56 holes has been drilled to date. Having completed drilling of the available block of ground, this machine was decommissioned in the third quarter of 2015. The MK IV reef-boring machine was successfully installed and commissioned in September 2015 at the extended test site at TauTona, and had drilled seven holes by year-end. Commissioning began later in the year, having been delayed by constraints resulting from the use of a contained transport system. This system consists of a collector bin, pipe and the material carrying car. The collector bin has since been redesigned, modified and returned underground for further trials, which are expected to begin in the first half of 2016".
